Library Skills and TEKS Correlations
Sandi Rainwater
In this era of accountability in education every field and program must be an active participant in addressing the TEKS in their teaching. In the Abilene ISD the library is very much united in this effort. Gone are the days of only checking books in and out to students. Today a well-developed library program will include a large portion of time spent collaborating with teachers and incorporating specific TEKS from each grade level into the skills and lessons taught in the library.
We are fortunate to have school districts, such as Fort Bend ISD and Spring Branch ISD, who have correlated the TEKS with skills taught in the library, and willingly share their task. Regardless of where we meet the students whether it be in music, physical education, or the library we must all make a contribution to their educational success.
The following websites are excellent sources for library media specialists to use as they correlate the TEKS taught in the library to prepare students for TAKS test mastery.
