Summer 2010 ASU Magazine

summer 2010 issue of Angelo State University MagazineThe newly released summer 2010 issue of Angelo State University Magazine chronicles how ASU is mapping out its future through the “Vision 2020” strategic plan, looks back on the most important campus highlights from the last decade, profiles an alumna who has accomplished a first for the state of Texas and details the many activities of the university’s art and music students.

The cover story takes an in-depth look at the roadmap ASU is using to promote its future growth and prosperity.  The “Vision 2020” academic and strategic master plan will shape how ASU accomplishes both short-term and long-term goals by the year 2020, including the ultimate goal of reaching 10,000 students.

“Double O Heaven” provides a list of the Top 10 campus events for the years 2000-09, a decade that defies a simple description and a simple nickname.

“Perfect Timing” profiles ASU alumna Audrey Sato, who recently became the first student to complete the state’s Joint Admissions Medical Program (JAMP) and match with a medical residency.  She accomplished this feat through timing, a bit of luck and her own hard work.

“State of the Arts” shows how ASU art and music students balance their studies with the wide array of concerts, plays and productions they perform that provide the culture and spice to campus life and help fulfill the students’ creative ambitions.

In the alumni section, “Cultivating Roots” and “Corporate Elite” detail how two Angelo State alumni parlayed their ASU degrees into both personal and professional success in the arts and business.

The magazine’s Along the Mall section includes a look at how the ASU Planetarium and Small Business Development Center have evolved and continue to perform their missions as they both celebrate significant anniversaries.

Additionally, the Briefs section details the spring enrollment increase, plans for a new joint development on university property along Knickerbocker Road, the advent of ASU apps for mobile devices and the award-winning activities of various campus groups and organizations.

In the Angelo Staters section, a summary is available of the many honors bestowed upon ASU faculty, staff and students over the spring semester.  Updates on ASU athletics are featured in the latter portion of the magazine, including profiles of the 2010 inductees into the ASU Hall of Honor.
