Finalists Announced

Two finalists have been named for Angelo State University’s position of vice president for finance and administration and will be on campus for interviews May 29 and 30.

The finalists are:

Lee Ann DeRita, internal auditor, University of Rhode Island

Angie Wright, interim vice president for finance and administration, Angelo State University

ASU’s vice president for finance and administration finalists were announced by search committee co-chairs Dr. David Dewar, associate professor of history and president of the ASU Faculty Senate and Brian Braden, executive director of information technology.

During their days on campus, candidates will meet with search committee members and ASU President Brian J. May, as well as students, faculty and staff.

DeRita has extensive administrative experience at the University of Rhode Island, where she develops and conducts performance, operational and internal control audits and risk assessments. Prior to her current role, she served as a lead on the university’s management team and as the business manager for the College of Engineering. DeRita holds an M.B.A. and a B.S. in management accounting, both from Bryant College in Rhode Island. She also earned a graduate studies certificate from the University of Rhode Island in human resources.

As ASU’s interim vice president for finance and administration, Wright is serving as the chief financial officer for the university. She oversees the Budget Office; Human Resources; Information Technology; Business Services; Controller’s Office; Facilities Management; Facilities Planning and Construction; Materials Management; Special Projects; University Police; Risk and Emergency Management; OneCard; and Parking Services. Prior to her current role, she was associate vice president for finance and administration, and before that, assistant vice president for finance and administration. She has been with the university for 23 years and holds a B.B.A. from ASU.

The previous vice president for finance and administration, Michael L. Reid, resigned last March to take a similar position at the University of Montana in Missoula. 


Search Committee Named

Angelo State University President Brian J. May has appointed a six-member search committee to make recommendations for a new vice president for finance and administration (VPFA).

The committee will be led by co-chairs Dr. David P. Dewar, president of the ASU Faculty Senate and associate professor of history, and Brian M. Braden, executive director of information technology.

Other members are Dr. Nancy Allen, interim provost and vice president for academic affairs; Preston Wimberly, Student Government Association president; Dr. Joseph C. Rallo, vice chancellor for academic affairs and chief of staff, Texas Tech University System (TTUS); and Jim Brunjes, vice chancellor and chief financial officer, TTUS. 

Committee members will accept and review applications, then forward the names of finalists to May for consideration.  The goal is to have the position filled by Aug. 31. 

ASU’s vice president for finance and administration is the chief financial officer of the university and reports to the president.  Responsibilities include overseeing financial operations, including budgeting and reporting, as well as facilities and human resource management.  Angie Wright has served as interim vice president for finance and administration since last March when then VPFA Michael L. Reid resigned to take a similar position at the University of Montana in Missoula.
