Greek Requirements and Expectations
The Greek system consists of those fraternities and sororities who are recognized members of the ASU Interfraternity Council or Panhellenic Council. In order for ASU to be clear about its expectations of Greek letter social fraternities and sororities and to show our tangible support for fraternal organizations, we have created requirements and expectations for ASU Greek students to follow.
Fraternities and sororities are required to:
Academic- Maintain a cumulative GPA of 2.5 or higher.
- Submit a scholarship report. (You may duplicate report required by National Headquarters.)
- Register as a student organization through the Center for Student Involvement.
- Have one active full-time faculty/staff advisor. (Chapters are encouraged to use this advisor in the development of goals and programs.)
- Submit and maintain up-to-date chapter rosters using the Chapter Roster Form.
- Submit roster changes (additions, deletions, status changes) within two weeks of modification.
- Submit and maintain up-to-date officer rosters.
- Submit a calendar of events each semester to the Office of Greek Life.
- Attend one Student Organization Leadership Fund (SOLF) training session during the fall semester.
- Attend Risk Management presentation sponsored by the Center for Student Involvement.
- Attend a president’s roundtable two times a semester.
- Meet with a Greek advisor monthly to discuss successes, ideas and/or concerns (presidents).
- Maintain 75 percent of membership from one year to the next (minimum of 10 members per chapter are required to be a recognized student organization).
- Initiate 90 percent of new members each semester.
- Submit a yearly recruitment plan to the Office of Greek Life (IFC and PHC councils).
- Submit a recruitment report that includes number pledged, number initiated, successes, improvements for the next year, etc.
- Attend PHC and IFC officer transition training prior to the first day of classes in the spring.
- Attend programs such as career preparation, healthy lifestyles, goal setting, relationships, etc., at least once a semester.
- Sponsor at least one philanthropic or community service project per semester.
- Participate in at least one philanthropic or community service project per semester.
- Submit a Solicitation/Sales Request Form prior to a chapter’s community service event (i.e., blood drive, canned food drive, fundraisers).
- Submit the number of service hours, money raised, items donated, etc., using the Community Service Form.
- Actively ensure that policies, practices and procedures of the organization uphold the rights and dignity of its members and new members.
- Abide by all state, local and federal laws when planning social events.
- Sponsor programs such as résumé building, money management, healthy behaviors, etc., once a semester (may be fulfilled through the IFC or PHC).
- Submit an activity report using the Activity Report Form.
- Fraternities and sororities are required to actively participate in ASU’s governing councils (IFC, PHC).
Fraternities and sororities are expected to:
General- Follow the teachings and values communicated through their rituals and incorporate those values into their daily operations.
- Complement the educational process through the encouragement of good scholarship, good citizenship and social well-being.
- Be responsible for the conduct of their members.
- Maintain a positive image and sense of awareness on campus.
- Maintain a cumulative GPA higher than the undergraduate average for the same semester.
- Develop and implement a chapter scholarship program.
- Strive for individuals to maintain a semester GPA of at least 2.3.
- Increase the chapter’s cumulative GPA from one year to the next.
- Attend or conduct training sessions designed to increase chapter effectiveness (meeting management, recruiting, etc). This could occur at national conferences, regional conferences and/or local seminars.
- Replace members that graduate, quit, transfer, etc.
- Attend conferences and/or participate in other leadership opportunities and report on what they learn.
- Attend ASU LEAD sessions (chapter executive officers, IFC and PHC officers).
- Strive to complete an ASU LEAD certificate by graduation (all members).
- Meet chapter philanthropy requirements established by national headquarters.
- Host at least two social activities with another chapter and/or organization each semester.
- Actively participate in Greek Week or any other activity hosted by the Greek community.
- Actively participate in the variety of programs, events and activities sponsored by ASU’s program council and other on-campus events sponsored by student organizations or university departments.
- Co-sponsor at least one activity/event with another fraternity or sorority.
- Fifty percent of members must be actively involved in at least one other student organization, campus leadership role, campus committee, etc.
- Show ASU pride by actively participating in Homecoming activities.
- Have at least one member serve as a SOAR leader and/or Rambassador.
- Support ASU athletics by attending various sporting events.
- Advising services through the Office of Greek Life to assist organizations in dealing with programmatic, leadership and operational matters
- Advising for individual chapters, IFC, PHC, Greek Council and various committees (i.e., Greek Week)
- Office space, computers and mailboxes for organizations in the Center for Student Involvement
- Semester grade reports
- Access to partial financial support
- Guidance, counsel and support for Panhellenic members as well as council assistance to function effectively in accordance with NPC and university policy
- Open recruitment support, including allowing men to participate in recruitment activities and join an NIC member group
- Individual chapter, Greek community and campus demographic information resources to groups that request it
- Impartial judicial process with right of appeal to member groups
- Financial management
- The following information must be reported to NIC:
- Campus, all Greek men’s, and chapter GPAs by semester
- Number of men pledged to chapters in an academic year
- Number of men initiated into the chapter in an academic year
- Percent of fraternity men compared to number of men on campus
- Total number of closed/opened chapters in an academic year
- Total number of Greek Life full-time professionals on each campus
- Graduation rate of fraternity men compared to non-affiliated men on campus
- The following information must be reported to NPC:
- Total campus sorority membership and female undergraduate enrollment
- Number of women who registered for recruitment and attended first round
- Number of women pledged (formally and informally)
- Quota and Total
- Panhellenic dues amount
- Campus, all Greek women’s, and chapter GPAs by semester
- Community service hours and/or money donated by Panhellenic Council (include projects list)
- Educational programming (sponsored or participated in)
