Picture Gallery Updated!
Friday, May 11, 2007

Not much to say here, but yes, the gallery is now up and running! Be warned, it's only about half way finished. I'll get the rest of the pictures for 2006-2007 up soon, though, so check back soon to see the rest of the pictures. Until then, check out a few of the events that took place this past year. Also, the documents, video and sound pages are NOT yet available. Just the gallery. Enjoy!

SASO Trip, SWD Convention, and More?
Friday, April 27, 20007

Sorry that we haven't updated this page in a while, especially to our alumni brothers out there, but as you'll now discover, we've been really, really busy. The year is winding down, and here's how things have been going at the EK camp:

On Good Friday, April 6th, we sponsored a trip for 17 music students and 3 faculty members to go and see the San Antonio Symphony Orchestra. While they were there, they also got to visit Southern Music Company and have dinner at Dick's. The cost of the trip per person was only $5, which covered their tickets and transportation to and from San Antonio. The trip was a great success. Everyone that went had a blast and is requesting that a trip be organized for next year. We'll see...
Six brothers made the trip to Stillwater, Oklahoma for the Southwest District Convention on April 13th-14th. These brothers were Adrian Alonso, Dacy Briggs, Chris Cooper (myself), Rebecca Henry and Joe Segovia. EK was well represented as two of the brothers served as proxy delegates, giving EK a total of three votes and representation on three committees. While we were there we visited Stillwater Station (KKPsi/TBSigma National Headquarters) as well as the National Shrine. After banquet we even had the opportunity to socialize with our closest chapter, Epsilon Delta. This also witnessed the reuniting of Zegret and Bohica for the first time in almost three years. Everyone had a blast and returned to San Angelo reenergized.

The Kappa Kappa Psi Connection (our alumni newsletters) were mailed out just before the trip to District Convention. We had a few returned newsletters, and even more missing addresses from our database. Thank you to the alumni that have already submitted their updated information. If you haven't already done so and you'd like to recieve future newsletters and invitations to certain events (for example, the 40th Anniversery Banquet will be in Dec. 2008), please check out the Alumni page and update your information with us!

The letters for the 2007 Annual Celebrity Auction should be mailed out in the later part of next week. All of the envelopes and letters have been printed, and require only signatures from yours truly, and to be stuffed into one of the approximately 170 envelopes that don't already have a letter inside them. Because this is the first Annual Celebrity Auction in several years, it has taken longer to organize than initially anticipated. Currently we're projecting the auction to take place over e-Bay in late July or early August.

Tomorrow we will be hosting (along with the Delta Tau Chapter of TBSigma) the annual KKPsi/TBSigma Solo & Ensemble Contest. Jessica Ray, the Delta Tau chapter President said that we have approximately 50 more students participating than last year, which brings the total number up to between 250-260 Jr. High School wind, percusstion and string students in the Concho Valley that typically wouldn't have the opportunity to do something like this until high school. This also looks to be even more organized than last year's event, which was a huge success. Epsilon Kappa will hold officer elections following this event at 7 PM.

And we've saved the best for last. On Thursday, April 12th, 2007, the Epsilon Kappa Chapter initiated two new brothers. One is David Welch, a trumpet player and the little brother of Adrian Alonso. The other is Joseph Segovia, a tubist, bass guitarist and the little brother of Chris Cooper (myself). Congratulations to both of these men. EK is proud to have them among our circle of brothers, and the two of them look to be productive members of this fraternity for at least the remainder of their college careers.

Unfortunately there's no way to promise how soon the Chapter News section or any other section of the website will be updated, because dead week is next week, and then the following week is finals week. If we're not able to update the website often over the summer, then feel free to get in touch with us using either of the e-mails on the front page, or feel free to e-mail me at CSharpeRun@aol.com. Drop by at least once a month over the summer, as I'm sure we'll have updates to the website somewhere at some point. Thank you!

Alumni Section Added, Band Director Search
Thursday, March 15, 2007

I'm happy to announce that the Alumni section is up and running! As of right now it doesn't have all of the features we have planned, but it's much more substantial than what we've had up for the past few months. If you're an EK Alunni, please check it out and even update your information with us!

The search for ASU's next Director of Bands is entering its final stages, as the selection committee has narrowed the list of candidates down to three. The first of those three was on campus on Thursday and Friday of this past week. He was very well recieved by the students, and got many positive responses. Upon the advice of our sponsor, we will not publish the names of the final candidates on this website, but we hope to convey as much information to you as possible as time passes, as well as have a full blown article about the new director once they officially get the job.

Back on the website topic, you can expect to see a couple of things added to the Alumni section (as mentioned earlier), though we won't go into detail about it here. But also we'll soon have the Alumni Newsletter available through the Communications section. The Media section, once up and running, will contain chapter documents, a picture gallery, and audio files. Keep checking back for more chapter news and website updates!

Rodeo Clean Up, Tour, Other Projects
Friday, March 1, 20007

Well, the brothers made it through another year of Rodeo Clean Up with no reported complaints. We'd like to thank the sisters of Tau Beta Sigma that showed up on different nights to help us out. Now that Rodeo Clean Up is in the books, we can resume our regular work by getting back to our other projects. More on that in a second.

The ASU Wind Ensemble and Symphonic Band were in concert this past Tuesday night. Attendance was higher than I remember it being last year, which is great. Students in the Wind Ensemble were back at the EFA at 6 AM to leave for our one day tour. We performed in Mernard at 8 AM, but the performances went over especially well in Harper, where band students actually got to stand behind us while performing for one song, as well as in Fredricksberg where the Wind Ensemble recieved its first standing ovation since at least as long as I've been at ASU, which is two years! Although the tour ended up being cut down from three days to one, overall I can say it went well at the three schools we performed for.

We currently have a number of projects in the works to be finished by the year's end. Dr. Emmons should have the piece composed in memory of Dr. Black ready by the final concert in April, which is being commissioned by the local chapters of KKPsi and Tau Beta Sigma. It's been recently revealed that this piece will feature a marimba solo to be performed by Mr. Daniel Smithiger. We're still waiting on word from the HOPE Committee for matching funds towards the San Antonio Symphony Orchestra trip that we're sponsoring on Good Friday. On the fundraising front, we have a Scratch & Help fundraiser scheduled to take place on March 24th in the afternoon. The 2007 Celebrity Auction is also coming along, and soon we'll be ready to mail out requests to celebs for things to auction.

One last, quick note - The Alumni Newsletters that Dacy finished last semester should be in the mail over Spring Break. We apologize to our alumni that haven't recieved an Alumni Newsletter in quite some time, but that's the difference that a great Corresponding Secretary (like Dacy) makes. There's also a brotherhood activity scheduled for March 25th. Well, that's it for now folks. Be sure to check back in within the next two weeks for another update!

New Class, Service Projects and Rodeo Clean Up
Thursday, February 15, 20007

Things are going alright for EK at the moment, and now that this section of the website is up and running I just thought I'd drop in a let everyone out there in cyberspace know what we're up to lately! First off, we have a new class, the Alpha Psi Candidate Class, which has two candidates: David Welch, and Joe Segovia. Congratulations to these two men as they start their jouney towards active membership in Kappa Kappa Psi.

The brothers of EK (and a couple of our sisters) helped run the Region 6 UIL Solo & Ensemble contest this past Saturday from 7:30 AM to about 5:30 PM. Things ran pretty smoothly since we actually had a couple more people helping than we absolutely needed. Another major service project is on the verge of completion as well. For those of you who don't know, EK is sponsoring a trip for 20 students and 4 faculty to see the San Antonio Symphony Orchestra in concert on Good Friday, April 6. We're hoping to be matched by the HOPE Fund, and if so then the most this trip will cost each student is $4.00, which includes transportation, tickets and dinner. Students making the trip will also get to visit Southern Music Company to buy music for their lessons and other things. We'll keep you posted once we hear back from the HOPE Committee.

Finally, it's that time of year again. Rodeo Clean Up. We have a chapter meeting at 8 PM, then the Collesseum gig starts at around 10 PM. We'll most likely be out there until 2:30 since tonight is opening night. Please check the calendar for other scheduled dates and, if you're an Alumni, consider helping us out! That's a long shot, I know, but can you really blame us for asking? There's a lot going on this semester, so check back here every week or two for the latest updates.
