Athletic Training Education Program

Admission Requirements

Athletic Training Admissions Requirements
Admission to the Athletic Training Education Program (ATEP) at Angelo State University is selective and competitive. Prospective students must complete a Pre-professional phase of study to be considered for possible admission to the ATEP.

Pre-professional Phase
Admission to the Pre-professional Phase of the ASU ATEP is based on the following criteria:
1. Admission to Angelo State University**
2. Genuine interest in a career in athletic training
3. Submission of program application.
4. Ability to pass a physical examination and meet the Technical Standards for admission.

**As with all other academic programs at ASU, admission to the Athletic Training Education Program is contingent upon admission to the University. University admission information and applications can be obtained from:

http://www.angelo.edu/dept/admissions

Completion of the Pre-professional requirements does not guarantee admission to the ATEP. A limited number of students are admitted each year based upon the number of returning students and the number of clinical instructors. The primary admission process is conducted each spring semester with the selected students beginning the Professional phase of the ATEP the following fall semester. A secondary admission process may be conducted during the fall semester for students transferring from other ATEP or reapplying through the ASU pre-professional program.

Professional Phase

Admission to the Professional Phase of the ASU ATEP is based on the following criteria:
1. Successful completion of the Pre-Professional Phase of Study requirements*
2. Overall GPA of 2.5 or higher.
3. Completion of a personal interview with the ATEP Student Admissions Committee.
4. Completion of a personal interview with the ATEP Admissions Committee which will consist of the Program Director and at least two staff athletic trainers.
*Transfer students can meet the Pre-professional requirements at their current junior or senior college (must be able to transfer them for credit) or complete them upon arrival to ASU.
