The purpose of the Angelo State Sports Medicine Club is to promote interest in all aspects of Sports Medicine, to provide improvements in the education of all athletic training students at ASU, to promote the highest standards of health care for student athletes at ASU, and to create friendship between its members and with the general public. The Angelo State Athletic Training program enters their fourth year as a CAATE (CAAHEP - 2004) accredited program. The program expects a large incoming freshman class as the word about Angelo State University and the profession is distributed among our students and graduates. The Sports Medicine Club is primarily made of athletic training students. The Club helps provide financial support to the athletic training students through several fundraisers done during the school year. These create funds to help defer the costs of attending workshops, providing study materials, and reducing exam costs. This year the Sports Medicine Club in conjunction with the SAAC committee helped raise food for the San Angelo Food Bank and also participated in a trash pick up. Angelo State will hold the fourth annual San Angelo Sports Medicine Symposium on January 12, 2008. At the sports banquet the spring of 2007, seven students were recognized by the Lone Star Conference All-Academic Award.
