Angelo State University’s Student Government Association (SGA) is working on these initiatives:
Ram Family Student Campaign
The Ram Family Student Campaign is a student lead initiative by the Student Government Association.”Students giving back to students” & “We Take Care of Our Own” describe our mantras for this very campaign. By raising funds for students by students we adhere to these mantras and truly “Take Care of Our Own.” Every year, SGA will raise funds & award the Ram Family Student Scholarship at the Rammy’s Student Organization Awards. This year is the inaugural celebration so we are awarding $500.00 to one lucky ASU student! Click here for more information!
Student Discount Program
Initiated by former President Jeff Harris, the Student Discount Program has proved to be a success among students and the community. During this current administration, we are working to expand the program even further by inviting more local businesses to be part of this program. We are also working on making of the Student Discount Program an important part of the True Blue Initiative to bring the community together.
For more information on the program and to see what businesses offer a student discount, see the student discount page for more information.
RamTram Public Transit System
Students were surveyed about their transportation needs and it was found that many ASU students would use dedicated public transit system if one was provided. The reasons were varied, but shopping and social events tended to be the general consensus. Administration approached President Jared Goecker about the need for a public transit system and through collaboration with administration, the San Angelo Chamber of Commerce, and the Concho Valley Transit, the 86th Student Senate passed Resolution 86.A which gave the student approval for the transit system. The resolution outlined the route that busses should take and then detailed the cost, which will not come out of the Student Service Fee.
The next step for the Public Transit System is to get it approved through upper administration and locate the funding for the system. Everyone involved hopes to have the pilot program launched next semester.
Increasing school spirit and a sense of community involvement has been an initiative of Student Government for years. This year, the 86th Student Government joined forces with the Association of Mexican American Students to put fresh energy back into those efforts! 5th Quarter was piloted at 3 Parrots after the October 11th homecoming game and was a huge success! Students went and enjoyed great discounted food provided by 3 Parrots in a great environment and enjoyed each other’s company!
Student Government is planning more 5th Quarter’s in the future at even more home games to foster community involvement and school spirit! Contact SGA for more details!
Angelo State University’s SGA encourages students to wear blue on Friday’s to help build school spirit.
