Student Senate Bill 85.12

Bill no.: 85.12

Author: Joshua Logsdon

Sponsor: Duncan Knox

Accepted by the Presiding Officer: Connor Frankhouser

Title: An Amendment to create two Senatorial seats for international students

Proposal: To create Senate seats for international students

Whereas, international students are an integral and significant part of the Angelo State University Student Body,

And whereas, the majority of international students attend ASU for only one year and do not have the opportunity to run for elections,

And whereas, the international student population is not properly represented,

And whereas, allowing international students to have a place on the Senate would provide representation for international students,

And whereas, every student senator represents the student body, international student senators would represent every student on campus,

It is therefore recommended that the senate create two senate seats for international students to represent the student body by amending Article II, Chapter 2 of the Student Body Constitution by adding two new paragraphs which shall read:

The Angelo State University Student Body President shall nominate, and by and with the advice and consent of a majority of the Senate, shall appoint 2 international exchange or study-abroad student senators for a term of one year; and each Senator shall have one vote.

No person shall be an international student senator who is not enrolled in and maintains a minimum of twelve semester hours with a cumulative grade point average of 2.0.

Be it therefore recommended that this amendment to the Angelo State University Student Body Constitution be sent to the Angelo State University Student Body for ratification.
