Dr. Crosby W. Jones, Jr.

Biology Professor

Dr. Jones has taught in the biology department at Angelo State University since 1978. He is a microbiologist who teaches general microbiology and pathogenic microbiology as well as courses in immunology, general genetics and medical genetics. He is a member of the Health Professions Advisory Committee (HPAC) and is the department’s medical technology academic advisor.

Among teaching and advising awards he has received are the university’s nomination for the Piper Professor Award for Excellence in Teaching (1985), the Yokley Faculty Advisor Award (1998), Distinguished Faculty Achievement Award (2001-2002), Advisor of the Year (2005), and two time Professor of the Year in the College of Science (2006 and 2007).

Dr. Jones has been the Faculty Advisor for ASU’s chapter of Beta Beta Beta Biology Honor Society since 1979. He is also a national officer of the organization serving as Vice-President of the Southcentral Region of the U.S. The ASU chapter has been named the Bertholf winner five times (1988-89, 1992-93, 1996-97, 2002-2003, 2005-2006) during his tenure as advisor. This award is symbolic of the top chapter in the nation. Dr. Jones has also been honored by the Angelo State Tri-Beta chapter by having a scholarship called the "Dr. Crosby W. Jones Research Scholarship" started in his name.

Dr. Jones has served as thesis chairman for over 25 master’s students. He is most active in mentorship of undergraduate research projects. He has mentored projects conducted by 5 former Presidential Award winners ( Holly Scott 2006, Lori Stuart 2004 & 2005, Philip Balfanz 2003, Steve Rommelfanger 1993, Shivraj Sohur 1992) and several of his research students have won Brooks Awards (first place) at Tri-Beta regional conventions (Jeff Thompson 1984, Lola Bennett 1986, Mike Noe 1989, Doug Larsen and Reagan Mackey 2003, Lori Stuart 2004 & 2005).
