Proposition 1
On Tuesday, Nov. 6, Texas voters will go to the polls to vote on 16 constitutional amendments, including Proposition 1 affecting the state funding of Angelo State University as a part of the Texas Tech University System. The wording of Proposition 1 is as follows: "The constitutional amendment providing for the continuation of constitutional appropriation for facilities and other capital items at Angelo State University on a change in the governance of the university."
An analysis of Proposition 1 is accessible at Texas Legislature Online.
Statement by ASU President Joseph C. Rallo: "As a state agency, Angelo State University is subject to the will of the people as voiced by their elected representatives in the Texas Legislature. By an overwhelming vote of the Texas House and a unanimous vote of the Texas Senate, the Texas Legislature found it proper and beneficial for Angelo State University to become a part of the Texas Tech University System. The voice of the people was further ratified when Texas Gov. Rick Perry signed the legislation into law, effective Sept. 1. Since that date, Angelo State has operated beneficially as a part of the Texas Tech University System. Proposition 1 is simply a procedural matter addressing state funding to Angelo State University and necessary to fulfill the will of the people as reflected by the actions of their elected officials. We at Angelo State University certainly favor all actions necessary to implement the will of the people of the Great State of Texas."
