ASU Faculty, Staff Earn Awards for Decades of Service

Forty-four Angelo State University faculty and staff, including eleven with a quarter century or more employment with the university, were honored with Service Awards during ceremonies Monday, Jan. 30, in the Houston Harte University Center on the ASU campus.

ASU President James Hindman thanked the honorees for their loyalty and dedication to ASU and presented all with awards representing their years of service to the university.

Five employees received 35-Year Service Awards. They were Ross C. Dawkins, Chemistry and Biochemistry; Walter D. Noelke, Government; Michael P. Ryan, Advancement and University Relations; George E. Shankle, Chemistry and Biochemistry; and James R. Ward, History.

Awards for 30 years of service went to Arnoldo DeLeon, History, and Kenneth L. Stewart, Psychology and Sociology.

Recipients of 25-Year Service Awards were Jesus Cortinas, Facilities Management; Maria G. Menchaca, Facilities Management; John J. Miazga, Education; and Dennis E. Pate, History.

The 20-Year Service Awards went to Debra A. Braden, Information Technology; Janet E. Coleman, Controller’s Office; Judith A. Hakes, Education; Briza L. Lopez, Financial Aid; Alan A. Miller, Management and Marketing; Mark S. Sonntag, Physics; M. Gayla Trotter, College of Sciences; and Sally D. Turner, History.

Recipients of 15-Year Service Awards were John N. Barbour, Government; Denise H. Brodnax, Controller’s Office; J. Chris Ellery, English; Rebecca D. Francis, Post Office; Robert A. Garcia, Facilities Management; Michael T. Griffin, Biology; Helen Johnson, Facilities Management; Laurence F. Jones, Government; Lorri E. Moore, Admissions; Mark B. Motl, Computer Science; Donna S. Poutinen, Academic and Student Affairs; Angela L. Skaggs, Library; and J. Thomas Yokum, Management and Marketing.

The 10-Year Service Awards were presented to Kevin A. Boudreaux, Chemistry and Biochemistry; Elton C. Chambless, Facilities Management; Jay S. Halbert, Facilities Management; Jo Nell Harlow, Mathematics; E. James Hindman, President’s Office; Tina C. Miller, Communication, Drama and Journalism; Jose A. Pena, Facilities Management; Hal E. Peter, Facilities Management; Cody B. Scott, Agriculture; Martha R. Sleutel, Nursing; Martha A. Tafoya, Nursing; and Betty A. Thorpe, Aerospace Studies.
