ASU Nursing Faculty Presentation Set for College Teaching Conference

Wrennah L. Gabbert, a member of Angelo State University’s nursing faculty, has been invited to speak at the prestigious Lilly Conference on College Teaching later this month at Miami University in Oxford, Ohio.

Gabbert will speak on integrating self-selected projects into coursework to help establish and maintain effective faculty-student communication while enhancing the individual learning experience for each student. The topic of her Nov. 17 presentation is “The Self-Selected Project: A Multipurpose ‘Tool’ to Connect with Students.”

The Lilly Conference, which runs Nov. 16-19, brings together academicians from throughout the country to share leading-edge research and techniques designed to improve college-level teaching.

Gabbert’s talk will focus on how she has worked with adult students to develop course projects tailored specifically to their professional interests and learning needs. Gabbert said initial results of this approach demonstrate greater student commitment to the coursework and, in the end, a stronger, more-individualized educational experience.
