Piano, Trumpet Duo to Perform at ASU
Angelo State University will present award winning-musicians trumpeter John Daniel and pianist Mark Puckett for a special guest recital performance Monday, Oct. 9, in the Carr Education-Fine Arts Building on the ASU campus.
The recital will feature the works of Giuseppe Sammartini, Franz Joseph Haydn, Henri Tomasi, Rafael Mendez and Jon Faddis. The concert will begin at 7:30 p.m. Monday, in the Carr Recital Hall and is open free to the public.
Daniel is an associate professor of music in the Conservatory of Music at Lawrence University and the former principal trumpet player for the San Angelo Symphony Orchestra and Abilene Philharmonic Orchestra. A recipient of the specialist in music degree from the University of Michigan, Daniel has also performed with the Pennsylvania Ballet Orchestra, Palm Beach Opera and New Jersey Symphony Orchestra. He has performed recitals in Carnegie Hall, the Kennedy Center and throughout South Korea.
Daniel's jazz credits are equally varied, including stints appearing with Lionel Hampton, Bill Watrous, Carl Fontana, Jon Faddis, Allen Vizzuti, Marvin Stamm, Ernie Watts and the Nelson Riddle Orchestra.
Puckett is a professor of piano and artist-in-residence at Hardin-Simmons University in Abilene. He has performed in the U.S., Canada, Europe, Central America and Asia and has won awards in several international piano competitions. Puckett's recorded works include a CD of Chopin's ""Op. 10 etudes," Ravel's "Gaspard de la nuit" and Liszt's "La campanella."
The duo will also present a master class 4 p.m. Monday, in the Carr Recital Hall that is open free to the public.
