Student Population Up at Angelo State University

Enrollment at Angelo State University increased 1.6 percent this fall, compared to the same semester last year, and totaled 6,256, the highest student number since the 6,268 who registered in 2002.

The latest figures show an increase of 100 students over the 6,156 who enrolled in the fall of 2005. Students this fall were enrolled in 79,585 semester credit hours, compared to 78,362 a year ago, a 1.5 percent increase. Semester credit hours are a key factor in determining state funding allocated to universities.

ASU's student population this fall is 54 percent female and 46 percent male.

Totals by class were: freshmen, 2,123 (33.9 percent); sophomores, 1,204 (19.3 percent); juniors, 1,047 (16.7 percent); seniors, 1,369 (21.9 percent); graduate students, 460 (7.4 percent); and other, 53 (0.9 percent). Totals by ethnicity were: Caucasian, 4,231 (67.6 percent); Hispanic, 1,449 (23.2 percent); African-American, 384 (6.1 percent); Asian, 81 (1.3 percent); American Indian, 44 (0.7 percent); International, 56 (0.9 percent); and other, 11 (0.2 percent).
