ASU Readies for Start of Fall Semester
Angelo State University will welcome its Class of 2011 and returning students back to campus when fall semester classes begin at 8 a.m. Monday, Aug. 27.
University officials are expecting more than 6,000 students for the fall. Residence halls will open for check-in at 9 a.m. Friday, Aug. 24. University personnel and community volunteers will be available to assist students and their parents with moving into the residence halls.
A variety of welcoming activities have been scheduled for Friday through Monday as part of “Rambunctious Weekend '07” to help newcomers get acquainted. Included this year will be more than $7,000 in door prizes with multiple chances for students to enter and win.
Events will begin at noon Friday with a hamburger cookout at the Pavilion; a multicultural and first generational student reception at 3 p.m. in the LeGrand Alumni and Visitors Center; a performance by magician Brian Brushwood at the Pavilion at 8 p.m.; and a 10 p.m. outdoor movie and sundaes event at the Pavilion.
Saturday's Rambunctious Weekend activities include a 6 p.m. Pavilion pep rally, featuring Roscoe, the Ram Band, ASU cheerleaders and the Angelettes. That will be followed by a campus scavenger hunt at 6:30 p.m.; “Ram Deal or No Deal” at 8 p.m.; and a 10 p.m. movie and pizza event, all at the Pavilion.
Sunday activities will include a 3 p.m. Party at the Pool with fun, games and a fajita dinner. At 7 p.m., the campus religious organizations are hosting dessert and a movie. The weekend of activities wraps up Monday with Playfair at 7:30 p.m. in the Center for Human Performance.
The home fall sports calendar kicks off with the Fairfield Inn/Staybridge Suites Invitational volleyball tournament Aug. 31 in the Junell Center/Stephens Arena. The ASU soccer team's home opener is Sept. 3 against UT-Permian Basin at 7 p.m. at San Angelo Stadium.
