Darby to Deliver ASU Fall Commencement Address
State Representative Drew Darby, who was instrumental in the transition of Angelo State University into the Texas Tech University System (TTUS), will deliver the commencement address during ASU’s fall graduation ceremonies Saturday, Dec. 15, in the Junell Center/Stephens Arena.
Darby will address graduates of the College of Business and the College of Education during a 10 a.m. ceremony that Saturday. He will speak to graduates of the College of Liberal and Fine Arts and the College of Sciences in a 2 p.m. ceremony. More than 300 students will receive diplomas during the two graduation exercises.
In his first term in the Texas legislature, Darby authored House Bill 3564 that helped usher ASU into the TTUS, effective Sept. 1. He represents District 72, which includes Coke, Mitchell, Scurry and Tom Green counties, and is a member of the House Appropriations Committee. He is also chairman of the Budget and Oversight Committee and a member of the Business and Industry and House Administration committees.
A San Angelo native, Darby was an all-district football player at Central High School, where he graduated in 1965. A football scholarship took him to the University of Texas, where he earned both his bachelor’s degree in business administration and his doctorate of jurisprudence degree. He is the founder of the W. Drew Darby and Associates law firm and is owner and president of Surety Title Company and Double D Title, Inc., with nine offices serving 11 counties.
A resident of San Angelo, Darby serves as an elder in the First Presbyterian Church. He is married to Clarisa Fisher Darby and has two sons, Derek and Devon, and three daughters, Taylor, Regan and Ashley.
