More Ribbons for ASU Livestock Show Team in San Antonio
Angelo State University ’s Livestock Show Team placed in six different categories, including one first-place finish, with its Rambouillet sheep at the 2007 San Antonio Livestock Show and Rodeo last week.
The six-member team entered 12 Rambouillet sheep in the Open Breed Sheep Show and faced stiff competition, particularly in the ewe categories. Team members placed first in the Two Tooth Ewes category and second in Ram Lamb, Two Tooth Ram, Four to Six Tooth Ram, and Two Tooth Ewes contests. They also recorded four third places, one fourth place finish and one fifth.
Lambs are less than a year old, two tooth sheep are a year old, and four to six tooth sheep are two or three years old.
Show team members include graduate assistant Chase Settle, senior Aaron Gillespie and freshmen Lura Hayes, Lauren Kaker and Melissa Yamma. They work with a flock of 20 sheep, of which 12 can be taken to each competition. The rams weigh as much as 350 pounds, with the ewes tipping the scales at up to 275 pounds.
Next up for the show team is the San Angelo Stock Show and Rodeo Feb. 21.
