ASU Bands to Present Winter Concert of ‘Favorites’

The Angelo State University Symphonic Band and Wind Ensemble will present their winter concert “Favorites” Tuesday, Feb. 27, in the University Auditorium.

The concert will begin at 7:30 p.m. and is open free to the public. The University Auditorium is located in the ASU Administration Building, 2601 W. Ave N.

The Symphonic Band will play standards of its repertoire, including “Heralds for an Occasion” by Stephen Bulla, Frank Ticheli’s “An American Elegy” and “Novo Lenio” by Sam Hazo.

The Wind Ensemble will perform “Irish Tune from County Derry” and “Shepherd’s Hey” by Percy Grainger, Paul Hindemith’s “March from ‘Symphonic Metamorphosis,’” “Noisy Wheels of Joy” by Eric Whitacre and “Vientos y Tangos” by Michael Gandolfi.

ASU’s band program includes more than 100 of the finest instrumentalists on campus representing almost every major field of study. Dr. David Scott, director of ASU bands, will conduct the Wind Ensemble. The Symphonic Band will be led by Daniel Smithiger, assistant director of bands.
