ASU Music Professors to Present Songs About Love

Angelo State University music faculty Dr. Christine Buckstead and Dr. Shannon Loehrke will perform a recital of love songs from around the world Tuesday, Feb. 6, in the Recital Hall of the ASU Carr Education-Fine Arts Building, 2602 Dena Drive.

Buckstead, a soprano, will be accompanied by Loehrke on the piano for the program “Love and Romance: Songs about Love from Europe and America.” Each is an assistant professor of music in ASU’s Art and Music Department. The recital begins at 7:30 p.m. and is open free to the public.

The program of art songs and arias will explore the many facets of love through the settings of French, German, Spanish and American composers, including Celius Dougherty, Kirke Mechem, Olivier Messiaen, Jerry Bock, Bellini, Obradors, de Falla, Rodrigo, Quilter and Pauline Viardot Garcia.
