Jazz Up Spring at ASU Concert

The Angelo State University Jazz Band will perform numbers from some of the biggest names in jazz in a free concert at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday, April 3, in the University Auditorium.

The program will include works by the bands of Thad Jones, Charles Mingus, Count Basie, Duke Ellington, Stan Kenton, Take 6 and Arturo Sandoval. A highlight of the evening will be the performance of two tunes written by noted jazz guitarist Pat Metheny.

Solo performances by members of the ASU Jazz Band will also be featured, including Wade Bray, piano; Christina Cargo, alto sax; Omar Mojica, alto sax; Dustin Moses, trombone; John Ontiveros, trumpet; Rosendo Ramos, trumpet; and David Trevino, tenor sax.

The Jazz Band is directed by Tim Bonenfant, assistant professor of music. The concert is open free to the public. ASU’s University Auditorium is located in the Administration Building, 2601 W. Ave N.
