Fort Worth Sculptor to Exhibit Works at Angelo State
The whimsical sculptures of Fort Worth artist Chris Powell will be on public display in Angelo State University’s new Art Gallery Oct. 8 to Nov. 6 in the Carr Education-Fine Arts (EFA) Building.
The Art Gallery is located in Room 193 of the EFA Building. Powell’s exhibit, “Tableland,” will be open weekdays from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Powell will also present a lecture on his work from 4-5 p.m. Oct. 31, in Room 101 of the EFA Building. Both the exhibit and the lecture are open free to the public.
The sculptures that will be on display are crafted from a variety of materials and address Powell’s ongoing interest in the relationship between the object, the support and the structure. An experienced artist, Powell has received numerous awards, including Best of Show from the Texas Sculpture Association and an Installations Grant from the Abilene Cultural Affairs Council.
Also a respected educator, Powell is currently an instructor in the Department of Art and Art History at Texas Christian University. He earned his bachelor’s degree in ceramics from Abilene Christian University and his master’s degree in ceramics from Bradley University.
