ASU Writers Conference Announces First Annual Contest
Local and area writers are being invited to submit entries for Angelo State University's first annual Short Story Contest sponsored by the ASU Writers Conference in Honor of Elmer Kelton.
Entries should be less than 4,500 words, typed, double-spaced, and should include a cover sheet with the title, author's name, postal address and e-mail address. There should be no name on the manuscript itself. Authors wishing a reply or return of their manuscripts should include a stamped and self-addressed envelope.
Authors can mail their entries to Dr. Terry Dalrymple, Department of English, ASU Station #10894, San Angelo, Texas, 76909-0894. Entries can also be dropped off in the English Department in the ASU Academic Building.
Cost of the contest is $10 per entry and the deadline to submit stories is Oct. 15, with the winner to be announced Dec. 15. The winner will receive $250, have the winning story published in the Concho River Review and be invited to read at the 2008 ASU Writers Conference.
The contest is also sponsored by the ASU English Department and the Concho River Review, a regional literary magazine published by the English Department that has been showcasing poetry, short stories and non-fiction from Texas and beyond for the last 20 years.
