ASU Biology Honor Society Named Top Chapter in Region
Angelo State University’s Epsilon Sigma chapter of the Beta Beta Beta (Tri-Beta) National Biology Honor Society was named the top chapter in the South Central Region at the Tri-Beta regional conference held earlier this month at the University of Oklahoma Biology Field Station.
More than 125 faculty and students from 13 Tri-Beta chapters in the region, including 29 representatives from ASU, attended the meeting that was hosted by the ASU chapter and included contests for undergraduate research posters and research papers.
A scrapbook compiled by the Angelo State contingent also took first place in the Chapter History contest and ASU’s Cecily Haley won the John C. Johnson Award for first place in Session I of the research poster contest. Ashlee Stiles of ASU took third place in Session II of the research poster contest and third place in Oral Session I for her research presentation. Jason Strickland placed third in Oral Session II.
In all, there were 21 undergraduate posters and 25 undergraduate papers entered in the contests. Other ASU presenters were Halley Newman, Hitisha Zaveri and Jason Bodiford. Jared Bird and Haley served as moderators for the oral sessions.
Strickland is completing his term as student president of Tri-Beta’s South Central Region and was elected parliamentarian for the 2008-09 academic year at the regional conference.
