ASU Music Faculty, Guest to Present Chamber Recital

Angelo State University music professor Dr. James Womack will present a chamber recital for bassoon and horn on Tuesday, Sept. 9, in the Carr Education-Fine Arts Building Recital Hall, 2602 Dena Drive.

Joining Womack for the 7:30 p.m. recital will be Dr. Ellie Jenkins, horn instructor at the University of West Georgia and Womack’s colleagues from the ASU Art and Music Department, Dr. Timothy Bonenfant and Dr. Eleanor Elkins.

The concert, which is open free to the public, will feature Paul Basler’s “Six Bagatelles for Horn, Bassoon and Piano” and “Basia Nova” by Beth Weimann, performed by Jenkins, Elkins and Womack.

A highlight of the recital will be a trio for clarinet, horn and bassoon by “The Barber of Seville” composer Gioacchino Rossini, featuring Bonenfant, Jenkins and Womack. This piece has only recently been discovered and put into print.

Womack will close out the recital with Elkins by performing two pieces for bassoon and piano, “Sonata for Bassoon” by Romeo Cascarino and the exciting “Concerto for Bassoon” by Carl Maria von Weber.
