ASU Music Faculty to Feature Art Songs at Recital Feb. 19
Angelo State University will host a celebration of art songs, featuring music faculty members Dr. Christine Buckstead and Dr. Eleanor Elkins Tuesday, Feb. 19, in the Carr Education-Fine Arts (EFA) Building, 2602 Dena Drive.
The concert will begin at 7:30 p.m. in the EFA Building Recital Hall and is open free to the public. Buckstead is an accomplished soprano soloist and she will be accompanied by Elkins on piano. The program will feature works by a wide variety of composers known especially for writing art songs, including Amy Beach, Francesca Caccini, Ccile Chaminade, Lars-Erik Larsson, Florence Price and Henry Purcell.
Each song, lasting only two or three minutes, offers a miniature view into some of life’s most important themes: spring’s annual renewal, the joys of love, and love lost.
A recent transplant from Wisconsin, Buckstead has extensive performing experience in oratorio and chamber music. She has appeared as a soloist with a variety of ensembles, including the Wisconsin Chamber Orchestra, Milwaukee Ballet, Madison Chamber Choir and Wisconsin Baroque Ensemble.
Elkins joined the ASU faculty last fall. She has contributed to several musical CD’s for such artists as Elizabeth Bell and the Seattle Symphony, Aviram Reichert, Linda Mack, and the Music in the Mountains Festival Orchestra.
