ASU Livestock Show Teams Grab Ribbons in Fort Worth

Angelo State University’s Livestock Show Teams brought home a trailer full of ribbons from the Southwestern Livestock Exposition held earlier this month in Fort Worth.

One ASU team entered its flock of Rambouillet sheep in the Open Breed Sheep Show and took first place in the Yearling Rams and Aged Rams categories. Team members also placed second in Ram Lambs, Aged Rams, Pair of Ram Lambs and Pair of Sheep contests, fourth in Ram Lambs and fifth in Yearling Rams. Overall, the ASU flock finished third and boasted the Reserve Champion Ram.

For the first time since 1987, ASU also sent a cattle-showing team into competition. Team members entered four heifers in four separate categories of the Heifer Calves contest and registered third, fifth, sixth and seventh place finishes. ASU was also the highest scoring college team at the event.

ASU team members showing sheep were graduate student Chase Settle and sophomores Lauren Kaker and Melissa Yama. The cattle-showing team consisted of Amanda Stallings, Ashley Woods, Cari Hudspeth and Caleb Brooks.

The ASU team will show its sheep next at the San Antonio Livestock Show and Rodeo Feb. 4. Next up for the cattle-showing team is the Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo in March.
