Four ASU Cadets to be Commissioned into U.S. Air Force

Four members of Angelo State University’s ROTC Detachment 847 will be commissioned as second lieutenants in the U.S. Air Force during a ceremony on Friday, Aug. 8, in the ASU Carr Education-Fine Arts Building.

ASU Cadets Angela Ann Clapp, John Paul Duman, Derek Braden Fox and Steven Leonard LeMaire will receive their commissions. The ceremony will begin at 10 a.m. Aug. 8 in the Carr Recital Hall, Room 149, followed by a reception. Both the ceremony and reception are open free to the public. The Carr Building is located at 2602 Dena Drive.

A San Antonio native, Clapp is a kinesiology major with a double minor in aerospace studies and biology. She will be commissioned by Goodfellow AFB 17th Training Wing Commander Col. Richard Ayres and will receive her first salute from her father, retired Air Force Tech. Sgt. Robert Clapp. Her parents, MiHyang and Robert, will pin on her rank. Her first assignment will be as a personnel officer at Beale AFB in Marysville, Calif.

Duman is a business administration major from Del Rio. He will be commissioned by his former high school JROTC instructor, retired Air Force Lt. Col. John E. Wurmstein, and will receive his first salute from his grandfather, retired Army 1st. Sgt. Fernando Villafranca. His parents, Jerry and Maria Duman, and his sister, Catrina Duman, will pin on his rank. His first assignment will be as a contracting officer at Sheppard AFB in Wichita Falls.

Fox is from Kahalu’u, Hawaii, and is a computer science major with a double minor in aerospace studies and English. He will be commissioned by his father, Col. Dean Fox, and will receive his first salute from Tech. Sgt. Adrian Baldarama. His mother, Jan Fox, and his brother, Dustin Fox, will pin on his rank. His first assignment will be to attend pilot training at Laughlin AFB in Del Rio.

A native of San Diego, Calif., LeMaire is a mathematics major with a dual minor in aerospace studies and finance. He will be commissioned by his former ROTC flight commander, Air Force 1st. Lt. Joe Zuehl, and will receive his first salute from Tech. Sgt. Dianna Scales. His wife, Jireh LeMaire, will pin on his rank. He will be joining Fox for pilot training at Laughlin AFB in Del Rio.
