Time Capsule to Preserve Today’s ASU for Future Students

Angelo State University students have the chance to educate future generations about college life in 2008 by submitting items for a time capsule that will be completed in conjunction with the dedication of the new Centennial Village student residence hall prior to the fall semester.

The theme of the time capsule is “A Day in the Life of a Student, 2007-08” and ASU student groups are being encouraged to submit entries for a contest to decide what will be included in the capsule’s contents. Entries must be submitted by groups of at least three students. The contents of each entry must fit in a shoe or boot box and include a brief narrative of what is included and why. The items from the winning entry will be placed in a backpack before being sealed in the capsule, which will not be opened until 2053.

Entries for the contest must be submitted by April 1 to either the ASU Student Government or the West Texas Collection. The top eight entries will be revealed on April 4 and will go on display in the Houston Harte University Center until April 15. Students will be able to vote online for their favorite entry during that time. An additional prize of $500 will go to the winning entry, with $200 for second place and $100 for third.

The time capsule contest is sponsored by the ASU President’s Office and Student Government. For more information, call Ryan Mason at 942-2063 or Marcus Kelley at 942-2065.
