ASU Wool Judging and Livestock Show Teams Fare Well in Houston
Angelo State University’s Wool Judging Teams and Livestock Show Team all had good showings at Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo competitions last week.
ASU sent two wool judging teams to the Houston contest. One wool judging team finished second overall behind Texas Tech University, with the other finishing seventh overall. They also finished first and fifth in Placing and Reasons. In all, there were eight teams in the contest, including squads from Texas A&M, Kansas State and New Mexico State.
Individually for ASU, Terrica Taylor placed first in Placings and Reasons, 10th in Grading and second overall out of 47 competitors. Manzy Lowry finished sixth in Grading, tied for eighth in Placings and Reasons, and fifth overall. Kendra Franke tied for eighth in Placings and Reasons and Brit Tankersley placed 11th.
The ASU Livestock Show Team boasted the Reserve Champion Ewe at the Houston Livestock Show and also brought home several other ribbons. Showing nine sheep in the Open Rambouillet Sheep Show, ASU team members took first place in Two-Tooth Rams and Four-to-Six-Tooth Ewes. They also placed second in Ram Lambs, Two-Tooth Rams and Four-to-Six-Tooth Rams and third in Four-to-Six-Tooth Rams and Four-to-Six-Tooth Ewes.
ASU Livestock Show Team members are freshman Jarred Griffith, sophomores Lura Hayes and Lauren Kaker and junior Gary Wayne Henson.
The Houston competitions were the final contests for both the Wool Judging and Livestock Show teams for the spring semester.
