Prospective Students Get Chance to ‘Discover ASU’

Angelo State University will welcome prospective students and their families to campus on Saturday, Nov. 8, for “Discover ASU,” a day-long program designed to acquaint potential enrollees with the university and its numerous educational opportunities.

Discover ASU allows prospective students to visit campus and see what Angelo State has to offer in academic programs, facilities and opportunities for intellectual and personal growth. This will be the first of three Discover ASU programs for the 2008-09 academic year, but the only one offered during the current fall semester.

Activities will begin with check-in at 9:30 a.m. Saturday in the Junell Center/Stephens Arena on the ASU campus. The general welcome session will begin at 10 a.m. to be followed at 11 a.m. by informational sessions covering a variety of professional programs, including pre-health professions, nursing, pre-physical therapy, pre-law and teacher education.

Sessions covering admissions, how to select a major and ASU’s Honors Program are also scheduled at 11 a.m. as well as a tour of communication and journalism facilities and a studio performance by ASU’s Studio I drama troupe.

Lunch will be served in the dining hall at 11:45 a.m. followed by student organization and departmental fairs from 12:30-2 p.m. in the Houston Harte University Center and campus tours from 12:30-3 p.m.

At 2 p.m., students and their families will have their choice of free entertainment. They can attend either the star show “Oasis in Space” in the ASU Planetarium or cheer on the ASU ‘Belles volleyball team against Southeastern Oklahoma in the Junell Center/Stephens Arena.

Students and their families will also receive complimentary tickets to the ASU Rams vs. Texas A&M-Kingsville football game that starts at 6 p.m. at San Angelo Stadium.
