ASU Jazz Band Concert to Include Local Flavor

Angelo State University’s Jazz Band concert Tuesday, Nov. 18, will feature some personal touches by members of the Art and Music Department.

The concert is open free to the public and will begin at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday in the University Auditorium, inside the Mayer Administration Building, 2601 W. Ave. N.

Two of the featured pieces, “Here to Stay” by Pat Metheny and “Venus De Milo” by Miles Davis and Gerry Mulligan, will be played using arrangements by Jazz Band conductor Dr. Tim Bonenfant. Another piece, “Sometimes,” is an original tune by Dr. Daniel McCloud, ASU director of bands.

Vocal music major Kurt Crenwelge will be a featured performer during the concert on Woody Herman’s “I’ve Got News for You.”

Also on the program are pieces by Duke Ellington and Count Basie; the Yellowjackets; Bill Watrous; Oliver Nelson; Rogers and Hammerstein; and Marcus Miller and David Sanborn.
