ASU Financial Aid Director a Hall of Famer

Lyn Wheeler, Angelo State University’s director of financial aid, has been named to the Texas Association of Student Financial Aid Administrators (TASFAA) Hall of Fame.

A 28-year veteran in her field, Wheeler has worked in the ASU Financial Aid Office since 1992 and has been director since 2001. She is now one of only 20 members of the TASFAA Hall of Fame. Her selection was announced at the organization’s annual fall conference earlier this month in Houston.

“It's very humbling,” Wheeler said. “This award typically goes to TASFAA members, usually retired, who have made a huge impact within our industry. I am so surprised and honored to be included and here I am, still working in the financial aid office. I think it has to be the best recognition you can get, when your peers say ‘Thanks, you have made an impact on our organization and our profession.’”

Criteria for induction into the TASFAA Hall of Fame include seniority, at least three years of TASFAA membership, commitment to assisting students with financial aid, integrity, and actions that have resulted in lasting improvements in the policies and procedures of financial aid administration.

In addition to having her name added to the Hall of Fame Plaque in the TASFAA archives, Wheeler received an individual plaque and a diamond-studded, gold lapel pin inscribed with “TASFAA HOF.”

Wheeler previously worked in the financial aid offices at North Texas State University (now University of North Texas) and Stephen F. Austin State University. She has also served as TASFAA president, vice president and treasurer as well as chaired several committees. She was just elected to her second consecutive term as a delegate-at-large on the TASFAA board of directors.
