ASU Family Day Activities Set for Sept. 20

Relatives of all Angelo State University students are invited to campus Saturday, Sept. 20, for Family Day, which will include daylong activities and will wrap up with the Rams’ football game against East Central Oklahoma, at 6 p.m. at San Angelo Stadium.

Campus departments and student organizations will conduct receptions, demonstrations and programs throughout the day so that students’ families can see their children in the university environment. Family Day is sponsored by the ASU Student Life Office.

United Campus Ministries, 2453 Dena Drive, will open the day with a pancake breakfast at 7 a.m., followed at 10 a.m. by a reception for Honors Program students in the Honors Lounge on the third floor of the Porter Henderson Library.

The American Chemical Society will sponsor a chemistry magic show at 10:30 a.m. in Room 100 of the Cavness Science Building, 2460 Dena Drive.

Other morning events include a reception for parents by the Office of Residential Programs at 11 a.m. in the Texan Hall Community Room, 2104 S. Van Buren. The University Center Program Council will sponsor a reception and a preview of the upcoming “Heart Gallery of Northwest Texas” exhibit will be held from 11 a.m.-1 p.m. in the University Center Art Gallery, 1910 Rosemont.

The Department of Communication, Drama and Journalism’s Studio One drama team will present “Politically Correct Fairy Tales” from 1:30-2 p.m. in Room 241A of the Carr Education-Fine Arts Building, 2602 Dena Drive.

Other events scheduled for the afternoon are “Oasis in Space,” presented at 2 p.m. in the ASU Planetarium inside the Vincent Nursing-Physical Science Building, 2333 Vanderventer, and “Game Show 2008,” sponsored by the Office of Residential Programs at 2 p.m. in the Texan Hall Community Room.

The ASU Alumni Association’s Ram Jam will precede the football game from 3-5:30 p.m. at the LeGrand Alumni and Visitors Center, 1620 University Ave., with complimentary food and non-alcoholic beverages for ASU students and their immediate family members.

Current ASU students with valid student ID can pick up free football game tickets for their immediate family members at the University Center Information Desk between 8 a.m. and 5 p.m. Monday-Friday, Sept. 15-19. Tickets also will be available to family members during Ram Jam.

At halftime of the football game, the ASU Athletic Department will present its third annual Athletic Family of the Year Award.
