ASU Club Caf to Open Fall Season with Comedian

Well-known actor/comedian Guy Torry kicks off the fall Club Caf coffeehouse entertainment series at Angelo State University on Wednesday, Aug. 26, in the Houston Harte University Center.

Torry’s standup comedy show begins at 7:30 p.m. in the C.J. Davidson Conference Center. Admission is $1 and the audience will receive free Club Caf coffee mugs. Coffee, cappuccino, hot chocolate, cookies and brownies will be served.

The St. Louis, Mo., native followed another St. Louis comedian, Cedric The Entertainer, at Southeast Missouri State University and earned his comedic chops by standing up in dorm break rooms and tossing out jokes to his fellow students.

A veteran of late-night talk shows, Torry has appeared on “The Late, Late Show with Craig Ferguson,” “Jimmy Kimmel Live,” “Dennis Miller” and “The Tonight Show with Jay Leno.”

He also took up acting, with appearances on “The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air,” “Family Matters” and “Martin.” He also performed on “Def Jam Comedy,” a show featuring his brother, Joe, as a host. Torry made his mark in films as a convict in “American History X,” and in numerous other movies.

Samples of Torry’s routines can be found on YouTube and video.aol.com.
