ASU Bass Club Team Falls Just Short of Reaching Nationals
Bass Anglers at Angelo State University club members Josh Seale and Austin Adcock finished sixth in the National Guard FLW College Fishing Texas Regional Championship Nov. 14-16 in Natchitoches, La., narrowly missing qualification for the national tournament.
The ASU team’s catch was one ounce short of fifth place in the tournament, which would have guaranteed a spot at nationals. The pair landed nine bass weighing 13 lbs., 4 oz., during the three-day regional tournament held on Sibley Lake.
A team from Texas A&M University won the tournament with six bass totaling 17 lbs., 2 oz. Rounding out the top five were teams from Texas State University, Tarleton State University, Northwestern State University and Baylor University.
The ASU team will be featured on a Versus channel program about the tournament on Dec. 20 from 11:30 a.m.-12:30 p.m.
The tournament, one of five regional events, was open to full-time students enrolled in four-year colleges or universities. Two-person teams advanced to the tournament from four qualifying events, which were each limited to 40 teams. The national tournament is held in the early spring with five teams from each region competing.
Seale, a senior from Breckenridge, and Adcock, a sophomore from Leander, finished third at Lake Amistad in May and fifth at Sam Rayburn Reservoir in April in two Texas Division tournaments.
