ASU Graduate Student Wins National Award
Jakody C. Huckaby, a graduate assistant in the University Recreation and Intramurals Department at Angelo State University, has won a William N. Wasson Student Leadership and Academic Award from the National Intramural-Recreational Sports Association (NIRSA).
Huckaby is one of 12 graduate students nationwide and only two from ASU’s region who will receive the annual award at the NIRSA National Conference on April 4 in Charlotte, N.C.
Huckaby, from Denver City, joins UREC Assistant Director James “Dan” Robertson as the only ASU students to win the award.
The award is named for Wasson, founder of NIRSA, and it honors outstanding student leaders who demonstrate academic success and exceptional service to their institutions and communities.
“This is a tremendous honor for him, our department and our university,” said Bradley Petty, ASU’s UREC director.
