ASU Alums Set Legislative Reception in Austin
As a prelude to Texas Tech University System Day at the Texas State Capitol, the Angelo State University Alumni Association and ASU administrators will host a Taste of Texas reception Monday, Feb. 16, in the Bob Bullock Texas State History Museum for state legislators and officials.
The reception will allow ASU alumni and friends to visit informally with state officials on various issues in higher education and their implications for Angelo State and the Texas Tech University System (TTUS). On Tuesday, Feb. 17, ASU and TTUS representatives will converge at the Capitol for meetings with Texas legislators and their staffs. The events will conclude with a system-wide reception Feb. 17 in the Stephen F. Austin Hotel.
ASU’s Taste of Texas reception will begin at 6:30 p.m. Feb. 16 in the Bob Bullock Museum, 1800 N. Congress Avenue. The reception will feature a sampling of various foods sure to please Texas palettes, including Angus beef, lamb and goat raised and prepared by ASU agricultural students.
“The Taste of Texas reception,” said association Executive Director Sande Harrison, “is the alumni association’s way of supporting Angelo State and of thanking state officials for the hard work they all put in when the Texas Legislature is in session. Too, the reception gives us a chance to highlight the good work of many of our students.”
The Feb. 17 legislative day is ASU’s first as a member of the Texas Tech University System.
ASU President Joseph C. Rallo said the reception also allows the university to acknowledge the strong support of the TTUS governmental relations staff.
“Our affiliation with the Texas Tech System,” Rallo said, “has given Angelo State a stronger presence in Austin, which is especially important during the current economic climate.”
The Taste of Texas reception is sponsored by the ASU Alumni Association as well as several individuals and businesses. Those sponsors are Winstead PC; AEP; Texas Bank; Dr. Joseph C. Rallo; Joaquin Guadarrama; Frank Sturzl; Eileen Felton; Wayne T. Franke; Arnold Garcia; Frances E. Grogan; Sande Harrison; Mickey and Renee Long; Mark McClung; Neil McClung; Jay Orr; Jim Ratcliff; and Mike Vallandingham.
