Buffalo Soldier Display Planned at ASU

Artifacts and reproductions of equipment and clothing from the Buffalo Soldiers at Fort Concho will be on display Feb. 2-27 in the Angelo State University Art Gallery inside the Houston Harte University Center, 1910 Rosemont Drive.

The art gallery will also host a special opening reception for the display on Thursday, Feb. 5, from 4-6 p.m. Light refreshments will be served and staff members from Fort Concho will be on hand to answer questions.

Sponsored jointly by ASU’s University Center Program Council and Fort Concho, the display will feature items the regiments of black soldiers used in the 1870s while stationed at Fort Concho.

Items will include a reproduction saddle, reproduction and original uniforms, a reproduction Spencer carbine, a buffalo head, historical photographs and contemporary artwork portraying the era, according to Christopher Morgan, education/living history coordinator at Fort Concho.
