ASU Play Company Honored at State Festival
The Angelo State University Arts at ASU production of “Queen of the Mist,” which premiered in October, won 14 individual awards at the Texas state festival of the Kennedy Center American College Theatre Festival (KCACTF) Oct. 21-24 at San Jacinto College in Houston.
ASU junior Molly Schwencke, freshman Nicky Stanford and freshman Marissa Jennings were nominated for the Irene Ryan Acting Scholarship, which will be announced during the six-state regional festival in Amarillo on February 23-28.
Technical director Matt Smith, with the assistance of University Theatre Costumer Eldra Sanford, received the Best Load Award, given to the company with the most well-organized and executed set-up of the scenic, lighting, special effects, properties and costumes. Smith was recognized with awards for both Excellence in Lighting Design and Excellence in Scenic Design while Sanford received the Excellence in Costume Design Award.
Director Bill Doll received the awards for Excellence in Properties Design and Excellence in Sound Design. ASU and Doll were honored for Excellence in Continuing Support of New Work for the quality of the play and for the program’s history of producing original work. ASU and Doll were also honored for Excellence in Festival Hosting for their contribution to the organization, function and support of the festival.
The new play, written by ASU alumna Jackie Rosenfeld, competed with five other entries at the state festival.
