ASU Woodwind Festival to Feature Faculty, Guest Artists
Three guest artists will join Angelo State University music faculty and students for the 2009 Woodwind Festival Nov. 10-14 in ASU’s Carr Education-Fine Arts (EFA) Building, 2602 Dena Drive.
Guest flutist, Dr. Rachel Chacko, of Vassar College, bassoonist Mr. Michael Dicker and clarinetist Dr. David Gresham, professors at Illinois State University, will perform recitals and give master classes during the festival. Hosts from the ASU Department of Art and Music are Dr. Jeff Womack, oboe and bassoon, Dr. Timothy Bonenfant, clarinet and saxophone, and Dr. Constance Kelley, flute.
The festival will open Tuesday, Nov. 10, with a 7:30 p.m. performance by The Mesquite Trio, composed of Kelley, Bonenfant and Womack. Thursday, Nov. 12, ASU’s Woodwind Chamber ensembles will perform, and Friday, Nov. 13, the guest artists will give a recital at 7:30 p.m. All performances and activities will be held in the Eldon Black Recital Hall inside the Carr EFA Building.
Area music students will participate in a full day of activities on Saturday, Nov. 14. Registration at 9 a.m. will immediately precede a recital at 9:45 a.m. by the festival clinicians and hosts. Master classes for the participants will be held at 10:30 a.m. and 2 p.m., and an ASU student showcase recital will take place at 1:30 p.m. The day will conclude with a rehearsal and concert of a mass woodwind choir for all of the student participants.
Students wishing to participate can register in advance for $10 at the ASU Department of Art and Music or at the festival for $15. Parents, guardians and teachers are encouraged to attend festival events free of charge.
