ASU Flag Football Team Wins Regional Tournament
Angelo State University intramural squad “Elite” won the National Intramural-Recreational Sports Association Regional Flag Football Tournament Nov. 8 at Oklahoma State University in Stillwater, Okla.
Elite defeated the Texas A&M University Hustlemaniacs 34-12 to win the regional championship. Also advancing to the tournament from ASU was Wolfpac, which lost in the first round to a University of Texas-Arlington team. Two officials from ASU, Josh Boynton and Tyler Gueldner advanced to referee the semifinals games after earning top scores from the tournament judges.
Individual standouts from ASU were Elite’s Art Arteaga, who was named tournament MVP, and Michael McLeod and Matt Westbrook, who were named to the all-tournament team.
Elite will now advance to the NIRSA national tournament set for January in Florida.
