Angelo State University will present “Tres Vidas,” a chamber music theatre event, at 7 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 15, in the Houston Harte University Center, 1910 Rosemont Drive.
The Core Ensemble, which has appeared in venues around the world, features cello, piano and percussion in “Tres Vidas” with Georgina Corbo playing the featured roles of painter Frida Kahlo of Mexico, peasant activist Rufina Amaya of El Salvador and poet Alfonsina Storni of Argentina.
Storylines in the work by Chilean poet and writer Marjorie Agosin include Kahlo’s relationship with painter Diego Rivera, Amaya’s survival of a massacre and Storni’s challenges as Argentina’s first great feminist poet.
The program also includes Mexican folk songs along with tango and popular music from Argentina made famous by Mercedes Sosa and Carlos Gardel. Additional music for the performance is by Astor Piazzolla, Orlando Garcia, Pablo Ortiz, Alice Gomez, Carlos Sanchez-Gutierrez, Michael DeMurga and Osvaldo Golijov.
Besides Corbo, Core Ensemble members include cellist Tahirah Whittington, pianist Hugh Hinton and percussionist Michael Parola.
