Akin Named Development Officer for Academics at ASU
Jamie Akin, an Angelo State University graduate with a decade of experience in advertising and marketing, has been appointed as an ASU development officer with a focus on fundraising for the university’s academic needs.
Dr. Jason Penry, ASU’s executive director of development, announced the appointment, effective immediately. He said her primary responsibility will be “to discover, cultivate, solicit and maintain stewardship for individuals, corporations and foundations with the potential to help advance the mission of Angelo State.”
Penry said, “Jamie will play a key role in reaching the goals of the Campaign for Angelo State University, which seeks to raise $25 million by 2013, increase the number of donors to ASU and expand the number of documented planned gifts to the university.”
She succeeds Marshell Peter, who took another position at Angelo State.
Akin joins the ASU staff after two stints at the San Angelo Standard-Times, where she worked the last three years as advertising and marketing director and from 2002-05 as an advertising account executive. Between those two positions at the newspaper, she worked a year as online sales director for Granite Publications in Taylor and a year as account executive for AmeriPride Services in San Angelo.
She holds both her Bachelor of Business Administration and her Master of Public Administration from ASU.
Akin has been active in several local organizations, including the American Advertising Federation of San Angelo. She has served on the boards of Goodwill Industries, Leadership San Angelo, Sonrisas Therapeutic Riding and San Angelo Convention and Visitors Bureau.
