Children’s Author, ASU Alumnus to Speak at Literacy Conference
Well-known children’s author Seymour Simon will give the keynote address at the Eighth Annual Literacy Conference on Saturday, Feb. 6, on the Angelo State University campus.
Simon, author of more than 80 children’s books focusing on science, will speak at 9 a.m. in the C.J. Davidson Conference Center inside the Houston Harte University Center, 1910 Rosemont Drive. The luncheon speaker will be San Angelo native Brandon Ligon, who holds a degree in education from ASU and teaches fourth grade in Austin.
The conference is designed for classroom teachers and teacher education students and will run from 8:30 a.m.-3:30 p.m. Cost is $40 for teachers and the public and $10 for students. Breakout sessions will include literacy strategies and ideas for students in grades K-12. Lunch will be provided and door prizes will be awarded. Certificates will be given for Continuing Education credit hours for teachers.
The conference is sponsored by the ASU College of Education, Pearl of the Concho Writing Project and Education Service Center Region XV.
