Public Forum Set Nov. 16 for ASU Campus Master Plan
Local citizens will have an initial look at Angelo State University’s evolving campus facilities master plan during a public forum at 6:30 p.m. Tuesday, Nov. 16, in the C.J. Davidson Center in the Houston Harte University Center.
The forum will be the first of multiple opportunities the campus and San Angelo community will have for background on and input into the facilities master plan, which will shape the growth of the ASU campus as it moves toward an enrollment of 10,000 by 2020.
Participants in the forum will include Dr. James M. Limbaugh, ASU’s vice president for strategy, planning and policy, and John H. Russell, director of facilities planning and construction. Members of ASU’s master plan committee and representatives of Facilities Programming Consultants and Ford, Powell and Carson, all of whom are developing the facilities plan in conjunction with the university, will also attend the meeting.
Russell said the initial public forum will focus on campus building needs and space requirements in line with ASU’s academic master plan. The new master plan is scheduled for completion May 2011 and will guide construction projects and campus improvements for the next decade.
The evolving plan builds upon ASU’s Centennial Master Plan 2028, which was released in 2005 with the goals of providing defined boundaries and improved signage for the campus proper and of enhancing the campus environment to broaden academic, social and community activities.
Major recommendations from the current master plan included establishing a campus green, now under construction, along the Mall on the east end of campus and enhancing campus housing with new facilities to replace outmoded residence halls, including the two high rises. Since that report came out, Centennial Village was built, University Hall was imploded and Plaza Verde is currently under construction.
