ASU Combo to Present Jazz Giants’ Music

Angelo State University’s Jazz Combo will perform selections from some of jazz’s greatest artists and composers on Thursday, Nov. 18, in the Carr Education-Fine Arts (EFA) Building, 2602 Dena Drive.

The 7:30 p.m. concert in the EFA Building’s Eldon Black Recital Hall is open free to the public.

Featured pieces will include Duke Ellington’s “Satin Doll” and “Sophisticated Lady.” Also on the program are “Watermelon Man” by Herbie Hancock, “How High is the Moon” by Morgan Lewis, “When Sunny Gets Blue” by Marvin Fischer and Tito Puente’s “Ran Kan Kan.”

Other selections will include Lee Morgan’s “Sidewinder,” “Messa Stomp” by Mary Lou Williams, “Stolen Moments” by Oliver Nelson and “Pick Yourself Up” by Jerome Kern.

The ASU Jazz Combo is under the direction of Dr. Tim Bonenfant, assistant professor of music.
