ASU Ensembles to Perform a cappella Masterworks at Hermitage
The Angelo State University Chamber Singers and Vocal Ensemble will perform a cappella masterworks from the 16th through 21st centuries on Thursday, Oct. 28, at the Mt. Carmel Hermitage in Christoval.
The 7:30 p.m. program is open free to the public and will include Italian madrigals by Banchieri and Vecchi, French chansons by LeJeune and Martini, Latin motets by Palestrina and Victoria, a German lied by Hans Leo Hassler, and spirituals by Jester Hairston and Moses Hogan.
A new composition, “Earth Song,” by award-winning contemporary composer Frank Ticheli will close ASU’s segment of the program. ASU’s ensembles are under the direction of Dr. Pamela Lee, professor of music and director of choral activities.
Lee Middle School’s award-winning choir, under the direction of ASU alumna Patti Wetzel, will present two pieces by English madrigalist Thomas Morley.
