ASU to Host Public Safety Fair
Angelo State University’s Office of Environmental Health, Safety and Risk Management will host a series of emergency preparedness activities on the ASU campus Sept. 20-24 in recognition of September as National Preparedness Month.
The main event will be an Emergency Preparedness Public Safety Fair on Friday, Sept. 24, in the Houston Harte University Center, 1910 Rosemont Drive. The fair will begin at 11 a.m. and is open free to the public. Attendees will learn valuable tips for preparing their families, businesses and communities for emergencies and disasters, and have access to information on how to stay informed during an emergency situation.
Presenters at the fair will include the American Red Cross, Community Emergency Response Team (CERT), Medical Reserve Corps (MRC), ASU Police, City of San Angelo Emergency Management, Salvation Army, Amateur Radio Emergency Services (ARES), National Weather Service, Department of State Health Services, San Angelo Police Department and the Texas Department of Public Safety, among others.
Campus events will kick off on Monday, Sept. 20, with a presentation on personal preparedness, “Are You Ready?,” hosted by ASU emergency management staff. The presentation will begin at 10:30 a.m. in Room 203/204 of the University Center.
On Tuesday, Sept. 21, the National Weather Service will host a “Turn Around, Don’t Drown” presentation at 1 p.m. in the University Center, Room 203/204. That will be followed by a Campus Safety Forum at 3:30 p.m.
On Thursday, Sept. 23, The San Angelo Amateur Radio Club will conduct an amateur radio presentation to the campus community at 2:30 p.m. in the University Center, Room 203/204. The week of activities will then culminate with the Public Safety Fair on Friday.
This September marks the seventh annual National Preparedness Month as proclaimed by President Obama. It is a cooperative effort between the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA), the Department of Homeland Security and the Ad Council, and is designed to encourage Americans to take simple steps to prepare for emergencies in their homes, businesses and communities.
