ASU Making Alternate Housing Arrangements Until New Hall Completed
With the move-in date for Angelo State University residence halls just days away and the contracted July 15 completion date missed for Plaza Verde I, the university will provide alternate accommodations for the 416 freshmen originally scheduled to move into the new facility Aug. 19.
The incoming students will be housed temporarily in the adjacent 430-bed Concho Hall and will not pay room rent as long as they are housed in Concho Hall. Plaza Verde I, a $22.6 million project, includes four individual units, which are now targeted to come on line between mid-September and late December.
ASU President Joseph C. Rallo said, “I am greatly disappointed that construction was not completed on schedule, and I would like to apologize for the inconvenience it has created for more than 400 of our incoming freshmen. Our goal is always to create a meaningful and memorable campus experience for our students, but this is not the memory we had in mind for these new freshmen. Our goal now is to concentrate on meeting their other expectations of Angelo State.”
While the planned housing units might not be immediately available, Rallo said the displaced students can expect to receive the same level of service and programming from ASU’s professional staff in housing and residential programs, regardless of their quarters, either temporary or permanent.
Plaza Verde consists of four individual housing units with 416 total beds. Building No. 4 has 95 beds while Building Nos. 1-3 have 107 beds each. Building No. 4 is projected to be available for move-in in mid-September with Building No. 3 targeted for early October. Building No. 2 and Building No. 1 are targeted for opening in December.
Additional details on the Plaza Verde status will be publicized and posted on the ASU website at www.angelo.edu/plazaverde as they become available. Special instructions for those moving into Concho Hall will also be posted.
